Reckless Racing 3 review
Reckless Racing 3 is a fun game that brings all the thrill of racing to your phone or tablet. The top-down view brings an interesting perspective shift from the traditional racing games, but this is not the only feature that sets Reckless Racing 3 apart from similar games in the genre. Reckless Racing 3 also has quite a lot of content, so you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck with this game.
The art style in Reckless Racing 3 is a perfect mix of realistic and cartoonish influences. Making the visuals just a little more realistic would’ve made the game look bland and taken some fun out of it. Yet, going further into the colorful cartoonish style would’ve made it almost impossible to take Reckless Racing 3 seriously. Striking the right balance between realism and abstraction has allowed the creators of Reckless Racing 3 to make the gameplay even more fun and immersive than it could have been otherwise.
Since your success in Reckless Racing 3 depends on your ability to steer the car away from obstacles and around the sharp corners, it is crucial that the in-game controls are precise and responsive. This seems to be the case with all control schemes offered in Reckless Racing 3, and the touch controls can even be adjusted to fit your personal preferences. The game also supports MFi gamepads, so you can enjoy it with a physical controller.
There is a bit of a learning curve to all control schemes in Reckless Racing 3, which may be seen as part of the challenge or an annoying hindrance. Regardless of how you approach this, you’ll still have to spend several hours learning the ropes and figuring out how to deal with sharp turns and particularly complex obstacles.
Unique Feature: Auto Difficulty Levels
It is not very common for modern racing games to have difficulty levels altogether, so this feature already distinguishes Reckless Racing 3 from similar games. However, what makes it truly unique is the fact that it can be controlled by AI instead of being set manually by the player. This way the game becomes more difficult as your skills improve, and this “smart” adjustment of difficulty levels even works backwards - if you keep failing a certain level or race, the game will get easier! The problem with this system is that it adjusts the difficulty across all game modes simultaneously, so you may want to switch it off and adjust the difficulty manually if your skills in different game modes do not develop at the same pace.
The developers have already got a lot of things right with Reckless Racing 3. so you’ll enjoy it regardless of whether the currently present issues are addressed in future updates or not. The game would’ve been even more compelling with a multiplayer mode, but its absence does not make Reckless Racing 3 incomplete or inferior to other games in the genre. All in all, Reckless Racing 3 is definitely worth your time and money as it is a fun, well-made game with lots of tracks, events, and vehicles to explore.
