Netflix

Netflix review

Netflix was once a pioneer in the content streaming industry, and, after many years, it has managed to stay on top despite such players as Amazon, HBO, and Disney entering the fray. The app owes a part of its success to excellent TV shows. However, it is the personalization algorithm and availability across many devices that help the streaming giant stay on top.

Interface and Design – 10/10

The designers from team Netflix were meticulous when it came to details. It shows – the signature red and black interface where every element from the pop-up menus to the spinning loading bar circle is treated as an element of user experience.

This dedication shows in one of the most polished video streaming interfaces up-to-date.

Shows are categorized into lists by preferences. Each has a large, easily recognizable snippet. The navigation is narrowed to only a handful of necessary buttons, leaving the lion’s share of your on-screen real estate to content.

Key Functions – 10/10

Netflix is a streaming app with one primary feature – it steams digital content. This plays into the app's hand, as the developers were able to focus on ensuring a flawless experience for the viewers with the lion’s share of the technical stuff going on in the background.

Depending on your subscription, you can watch content in several resolutions, including 4K.

The app has nice functionality when it comes to creating lists and dividing content into categories. Adding something to favorites or to the watch later list takes as little as a single tap.

Usability – 9/10

As mentioned before, Netflix takes great pride in its user-friendliness. You will not experience any issues with the app after the initial login. The content is there, clear and visible. Plus, the search bar is rather obvious for those cases when you are looking for something special.

That being said, Netflix uses an advanced AO to analyze your preferences so you probably won’t even bother with browsing after watching just a couple of movies or TV shows.

Cross-Platform Use – 10/10

If there’s a device with a screen and internet access, be sure you’ll be able to run Netflix on it. Everything from Android, iOS, Windows, and up to Smart TV operating systems, gaming consoles, and more support the app without a hiccup.

The Verdict

Netflix is a perfect app for streaming your favorite content from a purely technical point of view. It is fast, responsive, and intuitive. The only thing that might hold you back is the content itself. Check the app via its free trial feature before deciding whether it is your cup of tea or not.

Pros:

  • Excellent streaming capabilities
  • Large library of content
